Harkabus finishes third at Class AAAAAAA Cross Country meet

East Coweta’s Kyle Harkabus turned in the best finish among local runners at the 2017 GHSA Cross Country Championships in Carrollton over the weekend.

Harkabus (16:20) finished third in the Class AAAAAA meet behind two runners from Milton -- Sam Bowers (15:58), who won the race, and teammate Nicholas Yanek (16:04) who was second.

Also competing for East Coweta were Braden Ray (18:10) who finished 58th, Konner Johnson (18:50), who was 113th, Jack Cliett (19:17) who was 127th, Alex Taylor (19:51) who was 145th, Jacob Smith (20:48) who was 158th and Xavier Church (21:59) who was 164th.

Newnan was led by Beck James (18:17), who finished 76th. The Cougars’ Caeden Greer (18:34) was 91st, Bo Palmer (18:38) was 94th, Will Thomas (18:48) was 107th, Gray Frederick (19:26) was 132nd, and Bryson Houston (19:43) was 142nd.

In the boys Class AAAAAA meet, Matthew Hill was the first runner across the finish line for Northgate. Hill (17:42) was 28th.

Also for Northgate, Sam Wessells (18:13) was 54th, Davis McIntire (18:30) was 68th, Michael Nelson (18:35) was 75th, Will Stephens (18:47) was 84th, Chase Mathwig (19:24) was 108th, and Hayden Hasberger (19:39) was 123rd.

For the Northgate girls, Sydney Tutle (23:07) was 74th, Hannah Skiotis (23:31) was 75th, Delaney Shaw (24:43) was 101st, Claire Wathan (24:53) was 104th, Dalia Gibson (26:03) was 140th, and Meagan Ryan (26:13) was 144th.
