The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred Monday morning.

Around 6:15 a.m., officials responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection Weldon Rd and Hwy 29 near Palmetto.

Authorities said the wreck happened when the driver of an F-250, traveling south on Hwy 29, attempted to turn left while the driver of the motorcycle was traveling north. Both drivers were attempting to beat a yellow light, according to Senior Trooper Chris Norman with the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the motorcycle struck the truck as it attempted to turn left, Norman said. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as Sidney Hulsey, 47, was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Newnan Hospital where he later died from his injuries sustained in the wreck, according to Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk.

The driver of the F-250 truck, a 25-year-old man, was not injured and alcohol or drugs do not appear to have played a role in the accident, according to Norman. The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is still investigating the crash and further details will be available at a later time.
