Investigators examine the scene of the accident that took the life of Kathryn Stephens on Tuesday. The incident marks the second vehicle-related death on Cedar Creek Road in less than six months.

A young woman was killed on Tuesday after the vehicle in which she was riding was struck head-on by a truck attempting to pass on a double line.

The victim was identified as Kathryn Stephens, 24, of Newnan.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Cedar Creek Road and Cates Road when a 17-year-old driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling north and attempted to pass a dump truck, according to Sgt. Mike Adcock with the Georgia State Patrol.

When the driver of the Dodge Ram truck traveled into the southbound lane, he struck an oncoming Toyota Camry, which instantly killed the front passenger, Adcock said.

The driver and back seat passenger of the Toyota were taken by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, and the driver of the Ram pickup truck was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. Their conditions are listed as stable, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The wreck closed the road in both directions for more than an hour.

The investigation by the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is ongoing, and any charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

The incident marks the second vehicle-related death on Cedar Creek Road in less than six months.
