The Coweta County Development Authority will write a letter of support for the proposed mental health facility in Newnan.

The decision was made during the authority’s regular scheduled board meeting on Thursday morning.

US HealthVest filed a new Certificate of (CON) need recently. They provide specialized psychiatric care services, including substance abuse treatment, through inpatient and outpatient programs. The company is based in the United States.

“This will not only be a benefit to our community, but to surrounding areas,” said Board Member Mike Barber.

Many of the other board members also spoke in favor of the mental health facility.

“Medical and law professionals have said that we do need a facility like this in the county,” said CCDA President Greg Wright.

CCDA Vice Chairman Steve Stripling added that he has heard many locals talk in favor of the facility. The board also said that Carroll and Douglas counties were opposed to the facility in Newnan.

The hospital campus at 60 Hospital Road on Newnan’s west side and the proposed location, was most recently the home of Piedmont Newnan Hospital before it moved to new facilities on Poplar Road.

In other news, the CCDA also approved a resolution to grant a bond for title for Winpak Films, which manufactures products that are used primarily for the protection of perishable foods, beverages and in health care applications. The expansion is in the beginning phases and will be company’s third expansion in three years.

The bond will not put any liability on the county or the authority. The expansion will be cost around $40 million and is expected to add 30 additional jobs.
