Two suspected gang members are in jail while investigators attempt to determine their role in a shooting at Eastgate Apartments on Monday afternoon.

Marterious Demond Glass, 18, and Anthony Juan Stargell, 18, are charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

Just before 1:30 p.m., 911 received reports of multiple shots being fired at the apartment complext.

Shortly thereafter, witnesses reported seeing Glass and Stargell harassing another male in the Milton Avenue area. When the victim grabbed Glass through the car window, Stargell then exited the car – raising a gun at the victim who then released Glass, according to Sgt. Jim Beneke at the Newnan Police Department.

After a witness called 911, both Glass and Stargell fled the scene in a blue Toyota Camry. Police were able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle on Wall Street, only a few blocks away from Milton Avenue.

Glass and Stargell were detained by police while a search of the car revealed three guns, including a .22 caliber AR15 rifle in the backseat. The witness from the incident on Milton Avenue was able to positively ID the two suspects, who were then taken into custody.

Police said the tattoos on both Glass and Stargell are gang related.

Prior to the incident on Milton Avenue, witnesses reported hearing over 20 rounds fired in the Eastgate Apartment complex. Police recovered multiple shell casings and are currently testing them against the weapons found in the Camry.

There were no reported injuries following the shooting, although a bullet shattered the window of a parked car. A pregnant bystander with a due date within three weeks, reportedly fell on her side attempting to get away from the shooting.

No witnesses have come forward to identify Glass and Stargell in the shooting and they have denied any involvement, according to Beneke.

The investigation remains ongoing.
