A proposed mental health facility in Newnan has submitted a new Certificate Of Need (CON) for their facility on Hospital Road.

The original Certificate of Need application for Newnan Behavioral Hospital was filed on Aug. 30, 2013, and currently remains in the hands of the Georgia Court of Appeals after a lengthy battle.

Now, a new CON has been submitted by US HealthVest. The new application addresses issues that dogged the original proposal – primarily the floor plan layout, which seemed to cause the most concern among opponents. It has been addressed and rectified, according to Dr. Richard Kresh, CEO, US HealthVest.

“We tried to address the items that were found and they didn’t like,” he said. “I think we’ve addressed them entirely and it should be more suitable for them."

If all goes to plan, Kresh hopes to hear by July and have construction begin just a few months after the decision. The target date to open the facility is middle to late 2017.

"We’re really enthusiastic and very grateful for the support we’ve gotten from the area since day one,” he said. "We appreciate it and hopefully we will be able to better the community very soon."

In March 2013, US HealthVest announced that it had raised $36 million through co-founders Richard Kresch, MD, and Polaris Partners to acquire and develop psychiatric facilities with a focus on specialized, high-quality patient care.

In September of 2013, Vest Newnan, LLC, a parent company of US HealthVest, LLC, filed a certificate of need with the state of Georgia to use the vacant former Coweta General hospital facilities.

“We’re still waiting for the outcome from the original CON from 2013,” said Kresh. “We have a purchase agreement for the old Piedmont hospital all set to go."

The hospital campus at 60 Hospital Road on Newnan’s west side was most recently the home of Piedmont Newnan Hospital before it moved to new facilities on Poplar Road.

US HealthVest provides specialized psychiatric care services, including substance abuse treatment, through inpatient and outpatient programs. The company is based in the United States.
