A Senoia woman died on Monday after her SUV struck a tractor trailer hauling a motor grader.
Just after 5:15 a.m., the driver of a Ford Explorer was traveling north on Old Hwy 85 in Senoia when she struck the passenger side rear axle of a tractor-trailer traveling east on Hwy 16.
This caused the tractor trailer to jackknife and lose its load, according to Trooper T.J. Hamilton with the Georgia State Patrol.
A Nissan Maxima was traveling west on 16 and had to swerve to avoid hitting the truck and ran his car into a ditch, Hamilton said. The driver of the Maxima was transported by ground to Piedmont Newnan for neck and back pain and was later released.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Sara Stevens, 80, was taken by ground to Grady Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries, according to Coweta County Coroner, Richard Hawk.
The driver of the tractor trailer was unharmed but shaken up, according to Hamilton. The roadway was cleared by 11 a.m. and the case is still under investigation.
