Special visitor to Northside Elementary School

The Newnan Times-Herald

Third graders at Northside Elementary School in Mrs. Mary Finley’s science classes recently finished a unit of study focusing on conservation and pollution. As a culminating activity, Mrs. Finley invited Mrs. Carol Duffey, director and special events coordinator for Keep Newnan Beautiful, to share an educational model called the “Enviroscape." The model features a complete community with a factory, farm, golf course, subdivision, roads, sewage treatment plant, small forest, stream, river, and lake that demonstrates both point and nonpoint source pollution. During the visit, all students were able to actively take part in the model presentation with hands-on activities, experiencing firsthand the effects of water pollution and how to prevent it.
