October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is spreading awareness as well as offering assistance to the public. GLSP is working to stop abuse by providing free legal representation in civil protection order cases.
GLSP lawyers represent victims of domestic violence at no cost in Temporary Protective Order hearings in all 154 counties outside of metro Atlanta in addition to providing legal assistance to help secure public benefits, health care and financial resources. A website is available by GLSP that includes information about what constitutes as domestic violence and how to obtain assistance related to housing rights and public benefits. Visit www.georgialegalaid.org for legal aid referrals, know-your-rights information and self-help tools.
For more information about GLSP call 1-800-498-9469. For Georgia’s 24-hour domestic violence hotline, which can provide immediate assistance in safety planning, counseling and other services, call 1-800-334-2846.
