The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Creamistry, 318 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected July 11 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed tong handle touching Oreos. Observed running dipper wells not at sufficient velocity to remove food particles. New violation. Observed single-services items improperly stored. New violation.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, 240 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected July 1 and received a score of 100-A.

Hardee’s, 4201 Sharpsburg-McCollum Road, Newnan – was inspected July 2 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Flies in kitchen area. New violation. Servsafe expired, needs to retake course. New violation.

Mama Lucia’s Restaurant, 236 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cutting boards stacked against one another while wet. Repeat violation. Observed in dry storage bags of flour, sugar and noodles open to contamination. Person-in-charge had wrapped in plastic wrap. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Mitchell’s Shack Attack, 66 Roberts Road, Newnan – was inspected July 11 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed product thawing on counter at room temperature. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dried food particles on potato slicer. New violation. Observed hand wash sink with low water pressure. Person in charge stated he is working on getting the pump repaired. New violation.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, 202 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected July 1 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed in dry storage a bag of fish fry and a bag of flour open. Person in charge moved items to sealable container. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a large number of house flies around a back storage dry area. Person in charge stated they have Ecolab out once a month for pest management. New violation.

Smoothie King, 85 Market Place Drive, Suite A, Newnan – was inspected July 13 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two food service employees preparing smoothies without hair restraints. New violation. Observed single-service items unprotected or near chemicals. New violation.

Dixie Dogz Mobile Cafe, 1904 Elders Mill Road, Senoia – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 100-A. 

Sleep Inn/ Main Stay, 3 Amlajack Blvd., Newnan – was inspected July 9 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed medicine kit stored with mustard. New violation. Observed wet-wiping cloth not stored in sanitizer. New violation.

Springhill Suites, 1119 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected July 8 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cups with lip surface not protected for guest use. New violation. Observed scrambled eggs being held on buffet line below 135F and some sausage patties below 135F. Discard and monitor hot-holding temperatures to ensure product is being held at 135F or above. New violation. 

Starlite Family Fun, 55 Thomas Grace Annex, Sharpsburg – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open sugar bag stored in main kitchen area, not properly sealed after opening. New violation. Observed no hand soap at hand wash sink behind front. New violation.
