The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Buffalo Wild Wings, 355 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected June 17 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed top door on warmer cabinet not closing properly. No foods were being stored in cabinet at the time of inspection. Cabinet should be repaired before foods are held in warmer to ensure they maintain appropriate temperature during storage. New violation.

Burger King, 2814 E. Hwy. 34, Newnan –  was inspected June 13 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter. New violation. Observed ice buildup under fan unit in walk-in freezer. Chipped tiles at mop well area. New violation.

Cambridge House, 2687 Hwy. 154, Newnan – was inspected June 19 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open pack of crackers in cabinet and open bag of brown sugar not properly sealed after opening. New violation. Observed heavy ice buildup in chest freezer in the basement storage area preventing lid from closing properly. New violation. 

Dunc’s BBQ Kitchen, 98 Jackson St., Newnan – was inspected June 19 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed maintenance tools propped against clean dish rack. New violation. Observed cold holding temperature control for safety foods above 41F. Moved to reach-in cooler with ambient temperature of 34F during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Food for Thought Catering & Kitchen To Go, 51 Market Square, Suite E, Newnan – was inspected June 18 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Handwash area blocked by pans and food particles in basin. New violation. Water bottle and personal cup in main kitchen area. New violation. 

HJ Wings & Things, Newnan, 31 Market Square, Suite 101, Newnan –  was inspected June 18 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on wall behind dish machine. Hard-to-reach areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation. Boxes of bacon and ground beef and metal food pans covered with plastic containers of fish and chicken being stored on bottom shelf in the walk-in cooler. Reorganized to prevent cross-contamination. Corrected on-site. New violation. 

Meat-N-Greet, 11 Jefferson St., Newnan –  was inspected June 19 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Splash guard at dishwasher needs to be reattached to prevent food particles from accumulating between guard and dish machine counter. New violation.

Starbucks at Target, 555 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected June 13 and received a score of 100-A. 

Mother’s Kitchen, 31 ½ East Broad St., Newnan –  was inspected June 20 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Floors, walls, ceilings and hard to reach areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation. 

Newnan Country Club Food Service, 1356 N. Hwy. 29., Newnan –  was inspected June 14 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Need food service permit posted. Will issue new copy. Need handwash sign downstairs sink. Gave handwash sign. New violation. 

Quality Inn-Newnan, 40 Lakeside Way, Newnan –  was inspected June 19 and received a score of 79-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hair restraint on employee working in kitchen. New violation. Observed sausage gravy cooling in plastic container in one door noncommercial opened this morning held for two days, not date marked. New violation. 

Starbucks, 1751 Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan –  was inspected June 13 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee working without hair restraint. Employee pulled back hair and put on a hat. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Tactical Smoke BBQ LLC, 165 Cold Harbor Court, Newnan –  was inspected June 20 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer over 400 PPM in a spray bottle. Product was diluted to proper strength. New violation. Observed some cold-hold units 46F, which is over 41F, which allows some products to be above 41F or colder and inhibits proper cooling. Product was cooled with an ice bath. New violation. 

Towneplace by Marriott, 4001 McIntosh Pkwy.,  Newnan – was inspected June 21 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed food-service employee with hair pulled up, but no physical hair restraint in place. New violation. Observed boiled eggs, sliced cheese and cream cheese not at proper temperature. Asked the employee to get a thermometer and monitor temperatures and take corrective action on foods cold holding above 41F. New violation.

Waffle House, 5010 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan –  was inspected June 19 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed reach-in cooler with metal pan under fan unit collecting water. New violation. Observed dish machine not reaching proper temperature for sanitization. Three-compartment sink set up during inspection so dishes can be properly sanitized until dish machine is repaired. New violation.
