The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Hooters, 1001 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected June 6 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine with no measurable concentration of sanitizer. Person-in-charge traded empty bottle of sanitizer for new bottle of sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed multiple items in walk-in cooler past their use-by dates, including bacon-wrapped chicken wings and breaded chicken wings. PIC threw items away. Corrected on-site. New violation. 

Johnny’s Pizza, 1899 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E., Newnan –  was inspected June 6 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine sanitizer below minimum strength. PIC stated they would call maintenance and manually sanitize until the problem is fixed. New violation. Observed chemical spray bottle stored on shelf above food prep area. PIC moved bottles to appropriate shelf. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Neighborhood Corner Cafe, 12 Bonnell St., Newnan – was inspected June 12 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed heavy carbon buildup on two frying pans and one metal food pan. New violation. Observed one open bag of grits rolled down on storage shelf. Ingredients should be sealed in a food-grade container or bag after opening. New violation. 

Subway, 2344 N. Hwy. 29, Newnan – was inspected June 3 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no EPA approved chemical to be used for bodily fluid cleanup. PIC bought approved chemical from the store. Corrected on-site. New violation. 

Town and Country Restaurant, 8 Franklin Hwy.,  Newnan – was inspected June 12 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Frozen pork chops and breaded chicken stored uncovered in reach-in freezer. New violation. Dust on light shield and ceiling vent cover near dishwashing area. New violation.

Waffle House, 15 Glenda Trace, Newnan –was inspected June 11 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed metal food pans in cabinet wet-stacked. New violation. Observed fork handle touching raw chicken in reach-in cooler and spoon handle touching lemons in reach-in cooler. New violation.

Zaxby’s, 195 Glenda Trace, Newnan –was inspected June 11 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed temperatures above 41F in prep-top cooler and reach-in cooler beside prep-top cooler. PIC moved all items from reach-in cooler to walk-in cooler and placed ice under prep-top cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Zaxby’s, 759 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected June 10 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Buildup on wire racks in walk-in cooler. New violation. Observed buildup on the inside of ice machine. Scoop handle touching ice in drive-thru area. Scoop handle placed out of content during inspection. New violation. 

Wendy’s, 2840 E. Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg –  was inspected June 4 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wiping cloths at drive-thru window stored in sanitizing solution not at proper minimum strength. PIC made new sanitizing solution. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Wesley Woods of Newnan/Peachtree City, 2280 N. Hwy. 29, Newnan –was inspected May 31 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed single-use items stored on the floor in dry storage area and emergency storage. New violation. Observed oyster stew held at 130F. PIC placed on stove to re-heat. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Wingstop, 311 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 140, Newnan –was inspected June 5 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed mold in ice machine. New violation. Observed heavy ice buildup inside walk-in freezer and on doorway. New violation.
