The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Beijing Restaurant, 2005 Hwy. 16 Suite 103, Newnan – was inspected June 7 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food stored in cold-holding unit. Person-in-charge moved items to appropriate containers. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed food scoops stored in bin of rice with handle touching food. PIC removed scoop. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Big Joe’s Bar & Grill, 1329 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected June 12 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed first aid stored on food rack. Observed sanitizer stored on top of flour container. Observed butane fuel stored on top of box single-service containers. Person in charge moved all items to appropriate locations. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Bodyplex of Newnan Inc., 60 Thomas Annex Grace Lane, Sharpsburg – was inspected June 4 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no test strips for sanitizing solution. Repeat violation. Observed unlabeled chemical spray bottle bottles. Person in charge labeled spray bottles and moved lids to top shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Bojangles, 2800 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan – was inspected June 12 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed pans wet-stacked on clean dishes rack. Person in charge moved them to dry separately. Repeat violation. Observed foods in reach-in cooler under prep-top cooler above 41F. PIC threw away tomatoes and lettuce and moved sausage and liquid eggs to other coolers. Corrected on-site. New violation. 

Cafe Aloha LLC, 775 Poplar Road, Newnan – was inspected June 6 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemical spray bottles hanging on rack pointing towards food dishes and single-service plates. Person in charge moved chemicals to bottom shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed soda stored on floor in storage area. Person in charge moved items to shelf. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Canongate Golf Club,  924 Shaw Road, Newnan –  was inspected May 30 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed foods in walk-in cooler with date labels past their use-by date, including baked beans with discard date of May 29 and coleslaw with a discard date of  May 28. Person in charge threw food away. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed in dry storage open bags of flour, sugar, etc., subject to contamination. Person in charge had employee wrap bagged items. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

China Chef Buffet, 67 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected June 10 and received a score of 72-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup on ice machine lid and ice machine baffle. Repeat violation. Observed mouse droppings and mouse trap on storage shelf in dry-storage on the same shelf as single-service items. Informed person in charge that pest control devices should not be stored near single-service items, utensils or other food-related items. New violation.

Chopsticks China Bistro, 3150 E. Hwy. 34, Suite 304, Newnan –  was inspected June 11 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food items in prep-top cooler and reach-in cooler above 41F. Person in charge turned cooler down and put ice underneath to bring down temperatures. Corrected on-site. New violation. 

Coweta County Prison Food Service, 101 Selt Road, Newnan –  was inspected June 7 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemicals stored above single-service items in dry storage area. Person in charge stated he would have an employee move them. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed pans wet-stacked. Person in charge moved items to dry separately. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Culver’s, 311 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected June 10 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic food pans wet-stacked. New violation. Dust on ceiling near vents and dust on walk-in cooler fan covers. New violation.

Domino’s Pizza, 15 Baker Road, Newnan –  was inspected June 11 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wet mop not hung to dry. Employee hung mop on wall. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Firehouse Subs, 226 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected June 10 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwash sink in main kitchen area not operating. Directed to use front handwash sink during inspection. New violation. Observed buildup and missing coating on wire racks inside reach-in cooler. New violation.

HJ Wings & Things, 29 Thomas Grace Annex Lane, Sharpsburg –  was inspected June 3 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed cracked plastic storage containers and lids. Repeat violation. Observed no internal temperature measure device for dish machine. New violation.
