Fred Carter, 89 of Palmetto, formerly of Newnan, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. He was born November 17, 1929 in Alcorn, Mississippi to the late George F. Carter & Bessie Velma Blasingame Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Michael E. Carter.
Fred lived in Mississippi until age 11 when his family moved to Memphis. He graduated from Memphis State University and served in the Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Fred began a long, successful career with the U.S. Immigration Service. His career with the Immigration & Naturalization Service took him to many locations. After his career with Immigration Service, he served as a deputy sheriff in West Palm Beach, FL. He and his wife, Uple, moved Georgia in 2000 to be closer to family. Fred and Uple were longtime members of Heatherwood Baptist Church. When they moved to Baptist Manor several years ago, they joined Providence Baptist Church in Rico.
The funeral is Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. The family will greet friends at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
