The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Little Caesars, 44 Bullsboro Drive, Suite G, Newnan – was inspected May 13 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on can opener blade, pizza sauce splatter on plastic containers on clean dish rack. New violation. Multiple insects observed during inspection. Person-in-charge stated pest control was last performed on May 10. Owner is sending copy of pest control records to CCEH. New violation.

Hardees, 231 Temple Ave., Newnan –  was inspected May 13 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter. New violation. Observed buildup on drink nozzles in drive-thru area and self-serve drink station and black buildup on deflector shield of ice machine and drive-thru ice bin. Observed dried food particles on food pan above slicer. New violation.

Holiday Inn Express, 4 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected May 20 and received a score of 76-C. Inspector’s comments: Person left in charge of the kitchen during breakfast service had not been trained and could not demonstrate knowledge of dish washing, hot holding, etc. New violation. Observed dishes being washed without sanitizer. PIC stated the wiping cloth bucket was used to sanitize since the sink did not have a stopper. Dishes would not fit in a bucket. Rinse water not clear and dishes were wet-stacked and no sanitizer present in wet areas of dishes stacked. Sanitizer compartment stained with brown residue that easily came off with an alcohol wipe. Clean sink, get stopper, and wash, rinse, sanitize and air dry dishes properly. New violation. 

Hungry Howie’s Pizza, 390 Bullsboro Drive, Unit 8, Newnan – was inspected May 13 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed racks where pizza pans are stored with dried cornmeal stuck to them. Racks should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation of food particles. New violation. Employee aprons and hats stored on shelf above pizza boxes. Boxes should be moved to upper shelf and aprons and hats stored below. New violation.

KFC, 3430 E. Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg – was inspected May 14 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on drink nozzles at self-service drink station. Nozzles removed and cleaned during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Observed open bags of sugar in main kitchen area. Ingredients should be stored in a food grade container or wrapped in plastic to seal after opening. New violation.

Lepoma’s Pizzeria, 3500 Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg –  was inspected May 14 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed black mold on deflector shield of ice machine. Buildup on can opener and date mark stickers on food containers and lids on clean dish rack. Stickers should be removed prior to washing. New violation. Current inspection not posted. Hung during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Los Abuelos, 125 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected May 16 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed ground beef above steaks and shell eggs beside cheese. Moved to proper storage immediately. Will have posters with proper storage posted on cooler. Will retrain staff. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Observed broom and dustpan by bulk food storage and other stored in mop well basin. Moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Rib Rub’s BBQ, 2895 Roscoe Road, Newnan –  was inspected May 14 and received a score of 100-A. 

Pizza Hut, 3150 E. Hwy. 34, Suite 210, Newnan –  was inspected May 16 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one open bag of cinnamon sugar rolled down on rack below prep counter in the main kitchen area. Ingredients should be sealed after opening to prevent contamination. New violation. Observed buildup on wire rack next to fryer, wire racks above prep counter area near vegetable prep sink and wire rack where pans are stored. New violation.

Poke City, 314 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan –  was inspected May 14 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple wet-wiping cloths on counters and not stored in sanitizer buckets. PIC moved cloths to sanitizer buckets. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed single-service items stored on the floor in upstairs dry storage. New violation.

Starbucks, 733 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected May 13 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup of debris between machines, in trash cabinet and on top of storage bins for clean towels and mop heads. Observed spilled milk in reach-in cooler. Repeat violation. Observed single-service cups stacked over top of holding tube, leaving them subject to contamination. New violation.

Subway, 3150 E. Hwy. 34,  Newnan – was inspected May 14 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee items such as purses hanging on rack with chips in food prep area. Water bottle on shelf with chips. Hats stored with single-use items. New violation.

The Half Shell Oyster Bar & Hotdog Shop, 16900 E. Hwy. 34, Suite C, Newnan –  was inspected May 13 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed hot-held oyster stew 112.4F, beef brisket at 129.3F and cheese dip at 117.8F. PIC turned up warmer and all were above 135F by 3:45 p.m. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Uncle Maddio’s Pizza, 371 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite 1102, Newnan –  was inspected May 10 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Bulk bins with sugar, flour and cornmeal in need of labeling. New violation. Observed grill cleaner stored next to oil and spices underneath grill. New violation.

Waffle House, 1478 E. Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected May 17 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed hot water sanitizing mechanical dishwasher not reaching temperature to sanitize dishes. Staff not aware of heat sanitization methods. Maintenance has been called and supervisor agreed to sanitize dishes in three-compartment sink once hashbrowns are removed and sink is cleaned. New violation. Observed long and acrylic, painted nails on employees without gloves in food prep area. New violation.
