The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Canongate Elementary School Cafeteria, 200 Pete Road, Newnan – was inspected April 26 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wiping cloth and sanitizing solution not at proper minimum strength. Person-in-charge made a new bucket of sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Depot Grill at Junction Lanes Family Entertainment, 141 Newnan Station Drive,  Newnan – was inspected April 26 and received a score of 91-A. Observed bulk bin without label. New violation. Observed grill cleaner stored on rack with tortilla chips. Moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Arby’s, 65 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected April 29 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed met wop not hung to dry. Repeat violation. Observed no plastic sleeve coverings on cups stacked at drive-thru and at the front counter. Person-in-charge tried to pull sleeves back up. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Art & Jake’s, 510 Newnan Crossing Bypass,  Newnan – was inspected May 7 and received a score of 79-C. Inspector’s comments: Raw chicken stored next to seafood, separated during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Buildup on can opener blade and food particles on the slicer. Both returned to dish machine to be properly washed, rinsed and sanitized. Corrected on-site. New violation.

JR’s BBQ, 2421 Corinth Road, Newnan – was inspected May 8 and received a score of 100-A.

McDonald’s, 1425 Hwy. 29 S.,  Newnan – was inspected May 8 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on drop area of ice machine. Ice machine emptied and cleaned during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed date-mark stickers on food containers on clean dish rack. Stickers should be removed prior to washing. New violation.

Newnan Fresh Foods Cafe, 33 Dart Road, Newnan –  was inspected April 29 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wet-stacked pans. Person-in-charge moved items to dry separately. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Planet Smoothie, 109 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected April 26 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two employees with hair pulled back but not wearing a hat or visor. New violation. Observed no soap at handwash sink near three-compartment sink. Soap replaced during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Savannah Court of Newnan, 27 Belt Road, Newnan –  was inspected May 8 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food products, including cooking oil and bagged rice, stored on the floor of emergency food closet. New violation. Observed an open gallon of milk with a use-by date of May 6. Person-in-charge threw milk away. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Texas Roadhouse, 1127 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected May 6 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two containers of salad dressing exceeding discard date of May 5. Dressings discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dish machine not reaching proper temperature for heat sanitization. Advised person-in-charge to set up three-compartment sink to sanitize dishes. New violation.
