The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

CDI HS Serving Western Ga-Newnan West, 106 West Washington St., Newnan – was inspected April 24 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Need certified food safety manager. Repeat violation. Handwashing sink could only produce small spurts of water, not enough to properly wash hands. Talked to person-in-charge about using dish-washing sink until handwashing sink is fixed. New violation.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, 90 Glenda Trace, Suite O, Newnan –  was inspected April 17 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Food particles on the floor behind front food service counter. Coating on counter starting to wear, exposing particle board. Dust on ceiling tiles and vents in main kitchen and above sandwich line. New violation.

Long John Silver’s, 52 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected April 12 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Establishment does not have approved chemical capable of cleaning up Norovirus. New violation. Observed single-use cups stored above storage capacity at the front counter. Person-in-charge removed excess cups. Corrected on-site. New violation.

No. 1 Buffet, 1731 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E., Newnan – was inspected April 15 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed foods in reach-in cooler stored uncovered such as egg rolls, fried chicken and raw chicken. New violation. Observed black buildup inside ice bin underneath drink station near buffet area. Should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.

Asian Chef, 941 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected April 25 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed live roaches in unused prep-top cooler. Person-in-charge stated he would remove the unused cooler. New violation. In-use utensils in non potentially hazardous food not stored with handle above top of food within a closed container. Person-in-charge moved handles so that they were not touching the food. Corrected on-site. New violation.

CDI HS Serving Western Ga-Newnan East, 80 East Newnan Road, Newnan –  was inspected April 25 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no sanitizer in dish machine. Person-in-charge tried to move dispenser cord but did not fix the problem. Repeat violation. Observed can foods and produce stored on the floor. PIC started putting them on shelves. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Pita By the Beirut, 326 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected April 25 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one open bag of sugar rolled down on shelf. Open ingredients should be sealed with plastic wrap or placed in a food grade container after opening. New violation. Observed plastic cutlery such as knives and spoons stored inverted exposing the food contact surface to possible contamination. New violation.

The Frigid Frog, 6632 Hwy. 54, Sharpsburg –  was inspected April 25 and received a score of 100-A.
