Wild time predicted at VBS this summer

The Newnan Times-Herald

Don’t be surprised if things get a little wild at Vacation Bible School this summer.

One of the most popular themes for VBS at local churches is “In the Wild: Amazing Encounters With Jesus,” which was created by Lifeway, the Southern Baptist publishing house.

“In the Wild” lets youngsters take on the role of photographers, snapping pictures in settings that mimic authentic natural animal habitats. “In the Wild” participants will also learn about encounters people had with Jesus.

Another theme being used at some churches is Group’s “Roar – Life is Wild – God is Good.”

Other Bible School themes at area churches include the farm, auto racing, construction and space travel. Resurrection Lutheran Church is using the “To Mars and Beyond” theme, and all participants will receive a rocket backpack.

Southwest Christian Church’s VBS is hosting B.A.S.I.C. Elements Science Camp in July. Participants will launch rockets and squish slime while walking through the five basic elements of faith – believe, ask, serve, impact and celebrate.

In addition to science devotionals and sciences games, there will be science-themed skits and videos.

Central Baptist Church has generally had a large Vacation Bible School, but the tradition is taking a hiatus this year because of construction at the church.
