The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Papa John’s Pizza, 90 Glenda Trace, Newnan – was inspected April 8 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic food containers wet-stacked on storage rack by three-compartment sink. New violation. No cleanup procedure or chemical available for Norovirus. New violation.

People’s Choice Pizza, 1741 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E., Newnan –  was inspected April 10 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Back handwash sink near three-compartment sink area not operating. Repeat violation. Observed no consistent date mark procedure. New violation.

Planet Smoothie, 90 Glenda Trace, Newnan – was inspected April 9 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee with no hair restraint. Person-in-charge stated they were ordering for employees. New violation.

Redneck Gourmet, 11 N. Court Square, Newnan – was inspected April 10 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cracked plastic food bins in prep top cooler. Cracked containers should be discarded. New violation. Observed heavy lime buildup in dish machine. Should be delimed at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.

Subway, 1731-B Newnan Crossing, Newnan – was inspected April 4 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee belongings stored on top of clean pans and on shelves over food prep area. Person-in-charge moved items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Subway, 30 Raymond Hill Road, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected June 29 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Trash can in ladies room in need of lid. New violation. Observed employee jacket, apron and visor on storage rack with bread pans and condiments. New violation.

Waffle House, 4410 Hwy. 154, Newnan –  was inspected April 9 and received a score of 76-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed mold-like substance on ice machine baffle. Repeat violation. Observed shelled eggs stored above waffle batter. Observed ground beef stored above pork. New violation.

My Chef Mel, 75 Frances Shirey Way, Newnan –  was inspected April 4 and received a score of 100-A.

Newnan Senior Center, 29 Hospital Road, Newnan –  was inspected April 4 and received a score of 100-A.

Which Wich Superior Sandwiches, 311 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 170, Newnan –  was inspected April 5 and received a score of 100-A.
