The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Bistro 745 (Piedmont Newnan Hospital), 745 Poplar Road, Newnan – was inspected March 1  and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed degreaser stored beside clean plates. Person-in-charge moved degreaser. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed clean pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved them to air dry. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Chapultepec Mexican Restaurant, 105 Village Circle, Suites A and B, Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 28 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed open cornmeal and cookies not properly sealed after opening on dry storage rack. Open ingredients or food should be sealed with plastic or placed in a food grade container to store after opening. Observe frozen food stored in a grocery bag. Foods should be stored in a food-grade container. New violation.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 527 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected March 6 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Metal food containers wet-stacked on drying rack. New violation. Observed scoops stored in water temping at 117F. Water changed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Eat Thai, 33 East Broad St., Newnan – was inspected Feb. 28 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bag of breading and open bag of sugar subject to contamination. Person-in-charge wrapped items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Jacob’s Table, 15 1C Barnes St. Newnan – was inspected Feb. 28 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed expired dairy products, such as an expired gallon of milk dated Feb. 23. New violation.

Katie Lou’s Cafe, 70 Main St., Newnan –  was inspected March 7 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed house-hold grade pesticide spray for flying insects in chemical storage area. New violation. Dust on ceiling tiles near vent covers. Cracked tiles around mop well. New violation.

Little Caesars, 3219 E. Hwy. 34, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 28 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dirty pans stacked with clean pans and dirty shelves used to store clean pans. Items should be cleaned frequently enough to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed accumulation of food debris on clean dishes shelves, walls by sauce station and on wire shelf above prep area. Areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Repeat violation.

Elegant Expressions Catering LLC, 253 Hendrix Trail,  Newnan – was inspected July 19 and received a score of 100-A.

Senoia Coffee & Cafe, 1 Main St., Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 28 and received a score of 100-A.

Magic Wings & Things, 47 E. Newnan Road, Newnan –  was inspected March 4 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed food bulk containers without labels. New violation. Observed frozen fish stored in non-food grade bags in lift top freezer. New violation.

Matt’s Small Town Pizza, 43 Main St., Suite E, Senoia –  was inspected March 4 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed lime buildup in dish machine. New violation. Observed food particles on small pizza pan stand. Should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.

Pita Mediterranean Street Food, 3150 Hwy. 34 E., Suite 204, Newnan –  was inspected March 4 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on white parts of drink nozzles in soda machine. These should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Repeat violation. Observed food containers wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved items to be air-dried individually. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Waffle House, 1030 Hwy. 34 E.,  Newnan – was inspected March 4 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw pork sausage stored over raw pork chops. New violation. Observed buildup of food debris in clean dish storage drawers under grill. Observed buildup of grease on hood above the grill. Should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.
