The Seventh annual RACE for the Orphans will be held on Saturday, May 4 at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.
Proceeds from the race will fund grants for nine families, in Coweta and surrounding counties, to adopt children domestically and internationally.
“We want people to come and do this race because it’s more than a one-time race,” said Kelly Preston, director of the event. “Whoever participates in this race is really impacting children and families for a lifetime. There are children around the world who don’t have a family, and you’ll be making a difference in their lives.”
In 2018, the event raised more than $43,000 from more than 800 participants, said Preston.
The race will feature a competition among the local schools. The school with the highest number of participants will earn a trophy and a $300 Academy Sports gift card. Second place will win a $200 gift card, and third place will win a $100 gift card.
The 5K race begins at 9 a.m. and costs $25 to enter.
In addition to the 5K, there is a Tot Trot and a 1-mile fun run for $10 and $15 respectively. The Tot Trot begins at 8:15 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run begins at 8:30 a.m.
According to Preston, sign-ups for the race are open through raceday. Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on May 1, but in-person registration can be completed at Dragonfly Running Company in Newnan. After May 1, all registration prices will increase by $5.
