Newnan sophomore K.K. Madrey is the definition of a talented multi-sport athlete.
After earning a spot on the Newnan Times-Herald All-County softball team in the fall, Madrey again earned some top accolades after being named the Coweta County Player of the Year on the basketball court.
Newnan struggled at times this season, finishing just 7-17, but Madrey did her part, tuning into a scoring machine for the Lady Cougars by averaging 14.1 points per game.
She also chipped in 6.1 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game.
Five-time GICAA state champion Central Christian also placed two players on the All-County First Team.
The Crusaders won the state crown again after finishing 22-1.
Junior point guard Pistol Brinson and senior shooting guard Anna Carter made the first team for Central.
Brinson averaged 10 points per game, four rebounds, and five assists per game. She also shot 49 percent from the field.
Carter led the way with 10.9 points, 4 rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from the field.
Two freshman players from East Coweta also earned a spot this year’s All-County squad after helping the team to a much improved 8-19 record.
Both Amya Walker and Leitaya Reeves placed on the Region 2-7A honorable mention All-Region team in their first season of high school basketball.
Trinity’s Catherine Skebo was named to the All-County First Team in her final season of high school basketball
Skebo finished the year averaging 18 points per game and was named Class A-Private School All-State team.
Heritage’s Carissa Vazquez finished her senior year with the Lady Hawks earning a place on the All-County first Team after averaging 10 points and 4 assists per game.
Northgate’s freshman Sara Page also earned a spot on the All-County first team after dishing in 11 points per game, five rebounds per contest.
Seven players from four different schools made this year’s All-County Second Team, including two from Central and Heritage and one each from Trinity, East Coweta, and Newnan.
Abby Clark (6.8 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, 42 percent shooting) and Madison Morge (7.5 points per game, 51 percent from the field, 36.3 3 pointers) earned a spot on the second team from Central.
Tricia Underwood (5 points per game, 5 rebounds) and Allyah Ferrell (8 points per game, 7 rebounds) earned second-team spots from Heritage.
Senior Kelly Fourman (8 point per game, 10 rebounds) earned a spot from Trinity as did Newnan senior Hailey Bloom (7.5 points per game, 4 rebounds per game).
Honorable mention players included from Central, Evanee Cooper, from East Coweta London Fowler and Destini Benning, Tuianna Taggart and Sherry Geoby, from Newnan Noelle Butts, Aniya Carter, and from Northgate: LeDeja Lancaster; Amelia Smith;G Gwenyth Cook, Sr.
