Winners named in 14th annual Kiwanis Art Show

Jada Clowers, a sophomore at Newnan High School, took home the prize for Best in Show at the 14th annual Kiwanis Club of Coweta County Art Show recently.

Clowers’ “Closeup” earned her a $100 award for the top artwork out of more than 100 pieces submitted to the show this year.

The Kiwanis Art Show, which features art from students in grades 6-12 from all public and private schools in Coweta County, is held each year at the Nixon Centre for Performing and Visual Arts. Winners were announced at a reception March 10, and the artwork will be on display at the Nixon Centre through March 25.

Other winners included:

12th Grade: First place – Danielle Kronlein, Northgate High School, “Ariana Grande.” Second place – Emily King, Trinity Christian School, “Amaranthus.” Third place – Hannah Grunau, Newnan High School, “Pieces of Sunset.”

11th Grade: First place – Morgan Bruner, Northgate High School, “FRUIT.” Second place – Mikaylee Bonner, Newnan High School, “Spread Out.” Third place – Casey Anderson, East Coweta High School, “Jake the Snake and Mr. Tee.”

10th Grade: First place – Genevieve Richards, The Heritage School, “Self Portrait.” Second place – Chaelin Kim, East Coweta High School, “Tired Feet.” Third place – Maggie Rivers, The Heritage School, “Masked by Nature.”

Ninth Grade: First place – Lilly Hammond, The Heritage School, “King of the Jungle.” Second place – Michaela Mikko, The Heritage School, “Lichtenstein POW.” Third place – Ella Stanfod, East Coweta High School, “Cheers.”

Eighth Grade: First place – Ryan Gaillard, Arnall Middle School, “Flying Away.” Second place – Felicitas Kienlin, Smokey Road Middle School, “Wind.” Third place, Jordann Barron, East Coweta Middle School, “Autumn Splendor.”

Seventh Grade: First place – Nancy Claire Wood, Odyssey Charter School, “Untitled.” Second place – Courtney Marsh, Arnall Middle School, “Phoenix.” Third place – Sawyer Piepho, The Heritage School, “Self Portrait.”

Sixth Grade: First place – Mae Hollingsworth, Evans Middle School, “Oh Hummingbird.” Second place – Mairin Bivins, Odyssey Charter School, “Oil Pastel Gesture.” Third place – Braylee Bower, East Coweta Middle School, “Dreamer.”

All eight winners will move on to the state competition. From March 25-April 26, their artwork will be exhibited at the Newnan Carnegie Library. The artwork will then be transported to Lee County High School in Leesburg for the Georgia District Art and Music Showcase.

The Newnan Kiwanis Club Music Showcase also was held at the Nixon Centre March 10. 

The annual Music Showcase features high school musicians living in Coweta County and offers scholarships to the top three participants. This year’s winners were:  First place, Sarah Culbreth, a senior at Newnan High School; Second place, Katie Ward, a senior at Newnan High School; and third place, Jalen Friday, a senior at East Coweta High School.  

All three winners were vocalists. Culbreth sang, "How Did We Come to This," from “The Wild Party” by Andrew Lippa. Ward sang, "How to Return Home,” by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk. Friday sang, "Hold Me in Your Heart," by Cyndi Lauper.

Culbreth will go on to compete in the Georgia District Music Showcase on April 27 in Leesburg.
