The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Arbor Springs School Cafeteria, 4840 Hwy. 29 N., Newnan – was inspected Feb. 8 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hot water provided at handwashing sink. Person-in-charge showed where she had previously contacted maintenance multiple times, but they had not resolved the issue yet. New violation.

Bistro Hilary, 21 Barnes St., Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 6 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup of slime in the interior of ice machine. New violation.

Bee’z Eats, 395 Millard Farmer Road, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 8 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed single-service items being re-used. Repeat violation. Observed food items, including cooking oil and potatoes, stored on the floor. Person-in-charge moved items onto crates. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Captain D’s, 1369 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 13 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed food debris buildup around the fryer, on the wall and between other equipment. Observed buildup on seasoning storage container. Repeat violation. Observed grease trap lid open and top dumpster lid open. Person-in-charge closed both. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Chick-fil-A, 5 Glenda Trace, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 11 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Heat test strips or thermometer needed for testing dish machine. New violation. Observed brooms and dustpans stored in various areas of the kitchen. Maintenance tools should be returned to a designated storage area after use. New violation.

China Chef Buffet, 67 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 12 and received a score of 70-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed food particles and buildup on handles of main kitchen and handwash sink. New violation. Observed wontons and breaded fish stored uncovered in walk-in freezer. New violation.

Coweta County Correctional Facility, 560 Greison Trail, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 12 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on the slicer. Person-in-charge had slicer cleaned during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed open bags of cake mix, biscuit flour, and beans in dry storage room. New violation.

Fried Tomato Buffet, 1545 McIntosh Trail, Senoia –  was inspected July 19 and received a score of 100-A.

Southern County Restaurant, 1180 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 11 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup in the ice bin under the drink station near the self-serve buffet area. New violation. Observed dust buildup on tiles over dish machine and dust on ceiling vent covers in kitchen area. New violation.

Golden Corral, 605 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 12 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on meat slicer. Person-in-charge stated he would have it cleaned again before use. New violation. Observed clean pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved to be air dried. Corrected on-site. New violation.

La Fiesta, 7 Jackson St.,  Newnan – was inspected Feb. 11 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw bacon stored above ready-to-eat foods in reach-in cooler. Observed raw chorizo stored above celery in walk-in cooler. Person-in-charge moved items to the bottom shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed chlorine sanitizer at less than minimum concentration. Person-in-charge made new buckets of sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Main Street Fudge and Ice Cream Shop, 42 Main St., Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 14 and received a score of 100-A.

Moe’s Southwest Grill, 1111 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 12 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup of mold-like substance in ice machine. Observed accumulation of debris of can opener. Repeat violation. Observed ground beef stored on the floor of walk-in cooler. Repeat violation.

Peking Restaurant, 7280 Hwy. 16, Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 13 and received a score of 72-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed several cans of household pesticides located on shelf in main kitchen area. All pest control must be performed by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Observed spoon stored in container of room temperature water. Observed tongs stored in flour with handle touching content. New violation.

Southern County Restaurant, 1180 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 11 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup inside microwave. New violation. Scoop handles in flour and sugar touching ingredients. New violation.

Star Deli, 165 Temple Ave., Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 11 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple containers of raw meat stored in reach-in coolers without covering to protect from contamination. Repeat violation. Observed single-service use items being used more than once. Must use dishes that can be sanitized. New violation.

Subway, 7280 Hwy. 16 E., Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 13 and received a score of 100-A.

Vallarta Grill, 45 Newnan Station Drive, Suite C, Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 7 and received a score of 75-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed clean pots in handwash sink basin. Removed during inspection to allow for handwashing. New violation. Observed prepared foods in walk-in cooler without date labels. New violation.

Waffle House, 1363 Hwy. 29 S., Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 12 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Spoon stored in peanut butter has handle touching content. New violation. Observed spoons stored inverted in silverware holder. Silverware should be stored with handles facing up. New violation.

Wendy’s, 1210 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 6 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed bag of sugar open and subject to contamination. Person-in-charge put sugar in bag. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed clean pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved pans to be air dried. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Wings on Wheels, 2922 Hwy. 85, Senoia –  was inspected Feb. 14 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed heavy buildup on fryer baskets. New violation. Observed handwash sink blocked by bucket. Bucket moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Wishbone Fried Chicken, 32 Jefferson St., Newnan –  was inspected Feb. 11 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed accumulation of food debris under and around fryers. Person-in-charge stated she was trying to hire a company to do a deep cleaning. New violation.
