The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

La Parilla Mexican Restaurant, 222 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Building 100, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 23 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved pans to be re-washed. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed large bin of flour in dry storage missing half the lid, leaving flour subject to contamination. Person-in-charge had flour moved to a different bin and had the broken bin thrown away. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Lepoma’s Pizzeria, 3500 Hwy. 3,  Newnan – was inspected Jan. 22 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup on deflector shield of ice machine. New violation. Observed one bag of open sugar not properly sealed after opening. New violation.

Newk’s Eatery, 362 Newnan Crossing Bypass., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 23 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one unlabeled chemical spray bottle.  Labeled during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a dented can of pizza sauce stored on dry storage rack. Discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Positano Pizza Napoletana, 316 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite A, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 23 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed unwashed produce stored next to ready-to-eat foods. Moved below ready-to-eat foods during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed wet-wiping cloth bucket without sanitizer registering. Corrected during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Sleep Inn/Main Stay, 3 Amlajack Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 24 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemical spray bottle not labeled. New violation. Moved unwashed produced below ready-to-eat foods during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Subway, 3150 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 24 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee jackets hanging on rack where single-use items are stored. Employee personal items stored in back prep area. New violation.

Tin Drum, 228 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 23 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no handwashing signs in bathrooms. Person-in-charge placed printed handwash signs in bathroom. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed food pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved pans to be washed again. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Urban Air Adventure Park, 231 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 24 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two chemical spray bottles not labeled. Labeled during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Can opener and cooler gaskets cleaned during inspection. Pizza conveyor oven scheduled for cleaning. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Wing Stop, 311 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 140 , Senoia –  was inspected Jan. 18 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one box of frozen chicken tenders stored on the floor of walk-in freezer. New violation. No employee handwash sign posted in ladies restroom. No ServSafe certification posted. Choking poster needed. New violation.

Zaxby’s, 759 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 18 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic food pans wet-stacked on shelf in dish area. Pans should be allowed to completely air dry before stacking. New violation. Observed cups overstocked behind the front service food counter. New violation.
