Northgate tennis teams split Region 5-6A matches on Wednesday, with the Lady Vikings holding their ground with a 4-1 victory against Douglas County.
Two of Northgate’s four contested lines turned in shutout efforts in the region victory, whichcame on the heels of Tuesday’s shutout of New Manchester.
Khayla Taylor dominated a No. 2 singles win 6-0, 6-0, while at No. 2 doubles, a tandem of Autumn Aeschliman and Hannah Bright also earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Victories from the Lady Vikings also came from a No. 1 doubles team of Cassandra Chahalis and Olivia Rankin.
Douglas County’s boys didn’t budge, however, earning a 5-0 victory over the Vikings, who were looking to build off Tuesday’s shutout win over New Manchester.
INDIANS FALL TO LAGRANGE
Philipp Conaway battled back for a victory in a tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, but it wasn’t enough for East Coweta’s boys on Wednesday at home in a tough 4-1 loss to LaGrange.
Conaway’s match was one of two tiebreakers among East Coweta’s five lines. A No. 1 doubles team of Joe Lanave and Daniel Aralando fell just short in a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6, 9-11 decision.
In singles play, the Indians’ respective No. 1 and No. 3 players Luke Hoegger and Dahun Im both battled deep into both sets before falling 4-6, 4-6 and 3-6, 4-6. At No. 1 doubles, Jose Iasso and Josh Mullins won two games in their opening set before falling.
