Former East Coweta softball player Dani Morgan came up with some late-game heroics on Sunday, belting a three-run homer to give the Florida State Seminoles a 4-3 victory over Arizona in a battle of the two ranked teams.
FSU won two out of three games against the Wildcats, winning the first game 5-3 and dropping the second game 11-3.
Florida State, the defending national champions, is ranked No. 1 and improved to 25-2 overall. Arizona, ranked 11th in the country is 18-7 after the weekend series with the Seminoles.
Morgan is batting .429 with six homers and 23 RBIs.
Sanchez, LSU win two out of three in SEC opener: Former East Coweta softball standout Shemiah Sanchez and the LSU Tigers won two out of three games against Texas A&M over the weekend to open SEC play.
In the opener against the Aggies, the Tigers rolled to a 17-3 victory in a game called after five innings by the mercy rule.
Sanchez led the way for the Tigers belting her second grand slam in the three games.
Texas A&M won the second game 7-0 before falling in the third and final game 6-5.
LSU is ranked 10th in the latest NCAA poll with a 21-5 record overall and 2-1 in the SEC.
Sanchez is batting .310 with 19 RBIs and 7 home runs.
Echols sisters leading way for Michigan State: Former Northgate standouts Ebonee and Charla Echols are among the Michigan State leading hits.
Ebonee, a senior for the Spartans is batting .351 with 15 RBIs and three homers.
Charla, who is in her freshman year, is batting .345 with 10 RBIs and two homers.
The Spartans won two out of five games over the weekend in the War Eagle Challenge at Auburn.
Victories came against Mercer, winning a pair of games by a score of 6-5.
In the first victory against Mercer both Ebonee and Charla Echols had RBIs.
Hannah Scarbrough enjoying successful debut at West Georgia: The former Newnan standout is enjoying a successful season at the Carrollton school after transferring from Georgia Southern.
Scarbrough leads the Wolves, who are 14-14 with a .370 batting average, with five RBIs.
Scarbrough has played in all 28 games starting 25.
Former East Coweta pitcher Morgan Goree had a 3.00 ERA for West Georgia through 28 innings, striking out 33 batters.
