The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Mama Lucia’s Restaurant, 236 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 17 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dirty knife stored in knife holder on wall. Person-in-charge moved knife to be cleaned. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed clean utensils stored in dirty drawers. New violation.

Mother’s Kitchen, 33 ½ E. Broad St, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 16 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed water bottles in main kitchen area. New violation.

Neighborhood Corner Cafe, 12 Bonnell St., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 16 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Handwash sink needs new line of caulk behind sink basin. New violation. Observed two-door cooler with ambient temperature of 50F. Two bags of raw chicken breasts with temperature of 50F. Cooler should be adjusted to hold foods at 41F or lower. New violation.

O’Charley’s, 545 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 9 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup of slime in the interior of the ice machine. Observed unclean plates and bowls on clean dish rack. Observed dirty pans stored beside/on clean pans. Person-in-charge moved dishes to be re-washed. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed clean plates, bowls and pans not stored inverted or in a protected manner. New violation.

The Oink Joint, 9 East Washington St., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 14 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no test strips available to measure strength of sanitizer. Person-in-charge stated he would order more. New violation. Observed walk-in cooler floor coming up. Repeat violation.

Shane’s Rib Shack, 55 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 17 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food pans wet-stacked. Dishes should be allowed to dry completely before stacking. Repeat violation.

Poke City, 314 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 24 and received a score of 71-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer bag empty and not dispensing through the tube in the three-compartment sink for dishwashing or sanitizer spray bottle for sanitizing surfaces. New violation. Observed package of seaweed lying directly on a coffee cup with lid that allows mouth contact for contamination. Observed avocado with sticker present in rice. Remove sticker and wash before peel contacts food or use a separate bowl with rice for ripening. Remove stickers from pans before using for food storage. New violation.

Cambridge House, 2687 Hwy. 154,  Newnan – was inspected Jan. 22 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Boxes of canned goods and boxed foods stored on the floor in the basement area. New violation. Expired canned goods in cabinets in main kitchen area and expired sour cream in reach-in cooler dated December 2018. Discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Firehouse Subs, 226 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 23 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No paper towels available in ladies restroom. New violation. Chemical spray bottle in handwash sink basin in back prep area. New violation.

Gogli Fire Korean BBQ & Sushi, 1111 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 12, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 23 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: No sanitizer present in third compartment of sink. New violation. Tempura batter 73F on table near fryer. New violation.

Jamaican Delight Caribbean Cuisine, 2235 E. Hwy. 34, Newnan –  was inspected Jan. 24 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed at-home pesticide spray in back storage area and a box of fly strips stored under handwash sink. All pest control must be performed by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Stains and dust on ceiling tiles in front food service and dining area. New violation.
