Lions open baseball season with victory over West Laurens

The Trinity Lions baseball team officially opened its first season of GHSA competition on Saturday with a 6-0 shutout over West Laurens.

After winning the GISA baseball state title last year, Trinity moved to the GHSA in all sports at the start of this school year.

The baseball team picked up right where it left off last season.

In Saturday's contest, Trinity out hit West Laurens 5-1.

The Lions scored one run in the first, two in the second, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Shep Hancock pitched five innings of one hit baseball, striking out eight and walking two. Teammate Kyle Riesselmann pitched two inning, allowing no hits and striking out three.

Riesselman, Hancock and Calin Smith each doubled in the victory.

Smith and Hancock each drove in a pair of runs. Jayce Blalock also had an RBI.
