Elected officials should go without pay in shutdown

I want to urge Rep. Drew Ferguson to support the Solidarity in Salary Act of 2019 so Congress and the White House do not receive pay during a federal shutdown.

Lawmakers should experience the hardship faced by federal workers held hostage over appropriations negotiations. I also want to urge legislation that covers the contractors who are put out of work because of the political wrangling through no fault of their own.

These people live paycheck to paycheck and simply cannot afford to lose one pay period without significant financial hardship. I couldn't do it, and I know of people who were hit very hard by this. They were begging online for people to help them meet car payments, mortgages, and other payments such as utilities just to get by.

Wealthy people have no idea what our lives are really like. I urge Rep. Ferguson to come talk to us and let us show you what life really is.
