The city of Newnan is now accepting registration for the upcoming Newnan Citizen Academy. The deadline for registration is Feb. 15.
The academy is typically conducted annually in the fall, however, this year the program will begin February 26 and go through Nov. 26. The academy class size has also been capped to 12 participants this year.
“This academy has had a significant impact on citizen engagement, and we are proud to celebrate its fifteen years of existence in the City this year,” said Ashley Copeland, Communications Manager for the City of Newnan, who will serve as the program’s ambassador. The academy began in the fall of 2004 and has proven continued success over the years.
This year, the academy program will consist of a series of classes that will allow for citizens to be educated and informed about all aspects of city government in Newnan. The program will be an intensive, hands-on program on how city departments operate and how critical decisions are made that affect the quality of life in Newnan.
Residents will do a number of things with the Academy, including:
· Meet city elected officials and administration
· Attend a Newnan City Council meeting
· Take a look into citywide revitalization and development through Main Street Newnan
· Learn how to Keep Newnan Beautiful and Public Works are keeping your neighborhood and the city clean
· Learn about rezoning classifications in your neighborhood
· And more
“The city is looking forward to this year’s academy and hope that citizens take advantage of this exciting opportunity to learn more about the City of Newnan,” said Copeland.
