Former Newnan basketball player Jannson Williams has begun his redshirt sophomore season on a high note starting all 14 games so far this year for the Marshall Thundering Herd.

The 6-9 forward is Marshall’s third leading scorer averaging 9.3 points per game.

Williams and his Thundering Herd teammates are 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the Conference USA standings with wins over Old Dominion and Charlotte to start a two-game conference winning streak,

The Thundering Herd knocked off Charlotte in the last game with Williams tossing in 13 points.

Williams hit a 3-pointer and also went 2 for 3 from the free throw line against Charlotte.

Williams came into his own last season and was named the team’s most improved player after playing in 35 games and starting the final five. He averaged 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season.

A year ago, Marshall won the Conference USA tournament  with a victory over Western Kentucky in the finals and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, winning a first-round game over Wichita State before losing to West Virginia.
