Marque’l Gould will be the speaker for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative service on Friday.

The service will be held at 7 p.m. at Russell Temple A.M.E. Church, 155 Westside School Road, Newnan. There will be music by Sanford Cousin and Cinco Primos, and a performance by the Renewed Mind praise dance team.

Gould received a college scholarship from Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 483, which sponsors the annual program and parade in Newnan. Civic and church leader Ida Johnson, who will be grand marshal at the parade on Saturday, will be recognized at Friday’s program.

The annual parade honoring the memory of King, who was slain in 1968 in the midst of his ongoing campaign for Civil Rights, will be Saturday at noon – with the procession moving through downtown Newnan.

Parade participants should line up by 9:30 a.m. for judging, which will begin at 10 a.m. Participants who don't plan to enter floats for judging should be lined up no later than 11:30 a.m.
