The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Long John Silver’s, 52 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 11 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed food debris and accumulation in cabinets, on floor and in drawers. These should be cleaned frequently enough to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed broken outside thermometer for walk-in cooler and no thermometer inside walk-in cooler. New violation.

Monkey Joe’s, 354 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite A, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 11 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comment: Observed unlabeled chemical spray bottle. Person-in-charge labeled bottle. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Quality Inn-Newnan, 40 Lakeside Way, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 20 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hair restraint on employees working in kitchen. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cups not protected in wire racks. New violation.

Rasoi Indian Kitchen, 1065 Sullivan Road, Suite G, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 19 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed prescription medicine, deodorant and fish bacteria treatment stored near food and utensils. New violation. Observed metal pans wet-stacked near dish machine. New violation.

Red Roof Inn and Suites, 590 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 19 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: No test strips available for monitoring sanitizer strength. New violation. Observed food employee washing dishes without hair restraint and/or gloves for long nails. New violation.

Towneplace by Marriott Newnan, 4001 McIntosh Pkwy., Newnan – was inspected Dec. 18 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed person-in-charge with hair pulled back, but no hair restraint present. New violation. Observed handwash sink dry and employee stated restroom handwash sink was used. Hands must be washed by food employees after restroom use and again upon entering food service area. New violation.

The Half Shell Oyster Bar & Hotdog Shop Inc. , 1690 Hwy. 34 E., Suite C, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 12 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed black mold-like substance on deflector shield of ice machine. New violation. Observed potentially hazardous foods thawed in standing water. Person-in-charge put them under running water. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Uncle Maddio’s Pizza, 371 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite 1102, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 17 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sausage in walk-in cooler marked with a prep-date of Dec. 6. Person-in-charge threw sausage away. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed bottle of bleach stored above pizza boxes. Person-in-charge moved bleach to another shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Zaxby’s, 195 Glenda Trace, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comment: Observed scoop handle in flour bin. Handle should be above food product in closed container. Corrected on-site. New violation.
