The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Best Western Shenandoah Inn, 620 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Dec. 19 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Hair restraints needed and only authorized access allowed in kitchen during food preparation. New violation. Post handwash sign in restroom. New violation.

Grand Cafe LLC DBA Big Joe’s Bar & Grille, 1329 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 12 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bag of ingredients, such as sugar and flour in dry storage. Wrapped and sealed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed small amount of black buildup on soda gun nozzle in bar area. New violation.

Cafe Aloha LLC, 775 Poplar Road, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food items stored on the floor in dry storage area. New violation. Observed employee drinks on prep table and beside coffee machine. Corrected on-site. New violation.

The Cellar at the Firestone, 20 Jefferson St.,  Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a box of sour cream and eggs on the floor of walk-in cooler and boxes of potatoes and sweet potatoes stored on the floor in main kitchen area. New violation. Heavy ice buildup on shelves in reach-in freezer. New violation.

Chopsticks China Bistro, 3150 E. Hwy. 34, Suite 304, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed scoop handle in flour. Observed scoop handle in wontons. Repeat violation. Observed crab meat stored in reach-in freezer uncovered and subject to contamination. New violation.

Domino’s Pizza, 15 Baker Road, Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 12 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer stored on top of food products. Person-in-charge moved sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed plastic bin used as a scoop in cornmeal. Scoop must be stored with handle above food product. New violation.

El Taquito LLC, 1389 S. Hwy. 29, Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple food items, including ground beef, stored on the floor of walk-in cooler. New violation. Observed raw chicken stored over raw beef in reach-in cooler. Person-in-charge moved chicken to bottom shelf. Corrected on-site.

Hampton Inn, 50 Hampton Way, Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 17 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed sausage on consumer self-serve line 135F or higher. New violation. No handwash sign observed in restroom nearest food service for employees. New violation.

Hooter’s, 1001 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 12 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food pans wet-stacked on drying rack. New violation. Heavy ice buildup on walk-in freezer door and on floor in walk-in freezer. New violation.

Home 2 Suites by Hilton, 4051 McIntosh Pkwy., Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 18 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine not sanitizing. Person-in-charge changed out sanitizer bottle, which was low. New violation. Observed plumbing leaking under three-compartment sink. New violation.

LaQuinta Inn, 600 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 19 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Food service permit or certified food safety manager certificate not posted. New violation. Replace refrigerator thermometer, which appears to be reading 10 degrees too cold.
