The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Bodyplex Newnan Inc., 60 Thomas Grace Annex Lane, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 4 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handle of scoop touching ingredients. Discussed proper store of utensils. New violation. Observed no test strips. Person-in-charge stated they would order some. New violation.

Burger King, 2814 E. Hwy. 34, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 6 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cups and lids overstocked at drive-thru window and coffee machine. Exposed to possible contamination. New violation.

Cafe Dionne LLC, 3500 Hwy. 34 E. Suite E,  Newnan – was inspected Dec. 7 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed a sleeve of styrofoam cups stored on the floor. New violation. Observed open bags of flour, rice, and cornmeal on dry storage rack. Items should be sealed with plastic or in a food-grade container and labeled after opening. New violation.

Coweta County Prison Food Service, 101 Selt Road, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 6 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Black mold on drop area of ice machine. New violation. Observed a spray bottle of Lysol stored next to a pie on shelf above prep area. Lysol moved to chemical area during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Dickey’s Barbecue, 15 Thomas Grace Annex, Sharpsburg – was inspected Dec. 5 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple chemical spray bottles with no label. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed accumulation of debris on lids of spice buckets stored near fryer. New violation.

Gigi Fire Korean BBQ and Sushi,  1111 Bullsboro Dr. Ste 12, Newnan – was inspected

Jan. 7 and received a score of 59-U. Inspector’s comments: Observed owner washing hands in four compartment sink rather than hand wash sink. Owner touched shredded lettuce with bare hands. Observed raw meats stored next to cut produce inside walk-in cooler observed only wash water present in four-compartment sink. Employee washed, rinsed pans, but did not sanitize pans in four-compartment sink. Observed dried food particles on slicer and knives stored on magnetic strip. Observed milk use by date November 25, discarded chicken thawing in pan stored in mop sink. Moved chicken during inspection, observed shredded lettuce stored in bowl with empty bowl bottom on top touching lettuce stored on drain board of four-compartment sink, observed boxes of food stored on floor.

Johnny’s Pizza, 1899 Newnan Crossing Bypass E., Newnan –  was inspected Dec. 3 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open package of chicken fry mix and noodles in dry storage not properly closed and sealed. Person-in-charge had items sealed correctly. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed multiple unlabeled chemical spray bottles. Observed cleaner stored above clean rags. Person-in-charge removed cleaner. Corrected on-site. New violation.

KFC Restaurant, 3430 E. Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg –  was inspected Dec. 5 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food pans wet-stacked in clean dish storage. New violation. Observed single-service items not properly stored to prevent contamination. Person-in-charge moved and covered items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

No. 1 Buffet, 1731 E. Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan–  was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Black spots on deflector shield of ice machine. New violation. Observed food containers of fried egg rolls, fried chicken, raw fish and raw shrimp stored in reach-in cooler without covers. New violation.

People’s Choice Pizza,  1742 E. Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Dec. 3 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw ground beef stored touching ready-to-eat deli meat. Person-in-charge moved items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Back handwash sink near three-compartment sink area not operating. Person-in-charge stated he needed to buy the parts to repair. Repeat violation.

Pizza Hut, 3150 E. Hwy. 34, Suite 210, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 4 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on and around storage racks by fryer. Observed buildup underneath and around vegetable prep sink. Repeat violation. Observed mop on floor instead of hanging to dry. Observed brooms and dustpans in front of handwash sink, by oven and by storage shelf. They should be stored in a designated area. Repeat violation.

Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse, 101 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic and metal pitchers stored underneath soap and paper towel dispensers at back handwash sink. Items should be stored in an area where they are not exposed to possible contamination. New violation. Spatula for rice stored in water between uses. Water must maintain a temperature of 135F for scoops to be stored between use. New violation.

Oasis Bar & Grill, 11 Spence Ave. , Newnan – was inspected Dec. 6 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Corn tortillas stored in basin of handwash sink. No hot water available at handwash sink. New violation. Black debris on front of to-go boxes. To-go boxes changed during inspection. Advised person-in-charge to keep to-go items in plastic to protect them from possible contaminants. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Wendy’s, 2840 E. Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg – was inspected Dec. 6 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wet-wiping cloths stored in sanitizing solution not at proper minimum strength. Person-in-charge made new sanitizing solution. Corrected on-site. New violation.
