The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Russell Temple A.M.E. Church, 155 Westside School Road.

There will be music by Sanford Cousin and Cinco Primos, and a performance by the Renewed Mind praise dance team. Marque’l Gould will be the speaker, and Ida Johnson will be recognized.

A welcome reception for Vince McGlothin-Eller will be held Sunday from 9-10:45 a.m. in the annex hall at First United Methodist Church of Newnan.

McGlothin-Eller is a deacon in full connection with the Michigan Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He is joining the staff at First Methodist.

He is married to April McGlothin-Eller, who has been working on campus in the Newnan regional office of the United Methodist Children’s Home. The McGlothin-Ellers have two children, Julian and Zemery.

The LaGrange Sierra Club will meet Tuesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 207 N. Greenwood St., LaGrange.

“Our guest speaker will be Angela Bennett,” said Ellen Parkhurst. Bennett will present "Guardians of Gaia,” a show that is strong with intention, offering healing and active movement towards how humans can come together and make decisions for the greater good.

“While it is whimsical and magical, it is grounded and focused to inspire environmental activism,” Parkhurst said.

Sign in and refreshments will start at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting from 7-8 p.m.

Forgiving Forward, a women’s conference, will be held Jan. 19 at First Baptist Church of Moreland.

Toni Hebel will be the guest speaker. The conference will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and the registration includes lunch and snacks.

“There is Hope: A Domestic Violence Program” will be held Jan. 19 at the Carnegie Library, 1 LaGrange St.

The program will start at 3 p.m. and will feature Barbara Newson and Coretha McCall as speakers. There will be door prizes and food.

The program is sponsored by New Wine Cathedral.
