Ray Caldwell

Mr. Ray Caldwell, 81, of the Rocky Mount Community in Meriwether County, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation in Thomaston.

Mr. Caldwell was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Meriwether County and was the son of the late James Leroy (Jay) Caldwell and Lucy Key Caldwell.

Mr. Caldwell served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Germany before returning to the U.S. and making his home in Meriwether County. He later retired as a building contractor and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. Ray was an avid hunter and loved being outdoors, whether for work or for recreation.

Mr. Caldwell is survived by his brother-in-law J. B. Sowell of Lake City; a niece and four nephews, including Susan Kyte (Wallace) of Forsyth and Jim Sowell (Donna Faye) of Lilburn.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.
