Newnan High School graduate Rico Zachery was recently named an assistant coach at the college level after accepting a position at Kennesaw State.
Zachery, 29, spent the last two seasons as head coach at Villa Rica High School where he led the Wildcats to back-to-back 5-5 seasons.
He also coached at Central of Carrollton for three years (2013-15) where he led the Lions to a 30-6 record.
In between, he worked on the football staff at Georgia Southern University.
He joins Brian Bohannon’s staff at Kennesaw as one of the defensive coaches.
Kennesaw State had its best year ever last season finishing 11-2 overall and advancing to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs before losing 27-17 to South Dakota State.
Villa Rica named former Grayson head coach Christian Hunnicutt as Zachery’s successor.
Hunnicutt went 20-5 at Grayson.
