Indians use win over Washington as prep for Pebblebrook

While getting ready for Tuesday’s state-ranked showdown at home  against Pebblebrook, East Coweta’s boys rolled to an 89-57 victory at Washington Saturday in a non-region game.

The Indians jumped out to a 27-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 60-28 at the half.

Senior Mandez Jones led four players in double figures with 16 points. Haziah Phillips added 14 while senior Rhet Reynolds and junior Chris Youngblood added 13 and 12, respectively.

With the win, East Coweta improved to 18-1 overall.

Pebblebrook handed East Coweta their only loss in the first meeting between Region 2-7A teams on Dec. 4 in a 63-60 decision.

In other boys action on Saturday: 

Central Christian 74, Heirway Christian 40: The Central Christian Crusaders defeated Heirway Christian in a non-region game at home.

Central led 39-21 at the half and outscored Heirway 35-19 over the final two quarters.

Central traveled to LaFayette for a game Tuesday.

Tri-Cities 76, Northgate 38: The Northgate Vikings dropped to 6-13 overall and 0-10  in Region 5-6A play with a 76-38 victory over Tri-Cities.

Northgate fell behind 48-23 at the end of the first half.

The Vikings returned to action at home Tuesday in a region game against Douglas County.

Girls

Central Christian 60, Heirway Christian 23:  The Lady Crusaders built a 31-14 lead at the half over Heirway Christian en route to a 60-23 victory.

Central held Heirway to just nine points in the second half.

With the win Central extended its record to 11-0 heading into Tuesday night’s game with LaFayette Christian.
