The East Coweta Indians clinched the Region 2-7A title Friday night with an 86-77 victory at Campbell
In a game that was close for all four quarters. East Coweta improved its record to 22-1 and 8-1 overall.
The victory extended the Indians’ streak to 14 games in a row.
East Coweta led 22-17 at the end of the first quarter and pushed it to 37-34 at the break.
The Indians outscored the Spartans 17-16 in the third quarter and led 54-50 heading into the final quarter.
Both offenses exploded in the final period with the Indians outscoring the Spartans 32-27.
Senior Fermandez Jones led East Coweta with 30 points. Chris Youngblood added 15 and Demetrius Freeman tossed in 14.
The Indians stepped of conference play on Saturday afternoon for a game at Grady.
Westlake 57, Newnan 47: The Lions outscored the Cougars 32-21 in the first half to keep Newnan winless in the Region 2-7A standings.
The Lions extended the lead to 50-37 at the end of the third quarter.
The loss dropped Newnan to 6-15 overall and 0-8 in league action.
EAST COWETA 59, CAMPBELL 38? The East Coweta Lady Indians fell to 7-15 overall and 3-6 in Region 2-7A action after dropping a 59-38 decision at Campbell.
Campbell led 33-19 at the end of the first half and extended it to 53-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
WESTLAKE 69, NEWNAN 19: The Newnan Lady Cougars trailed 20-11 at the end of the first quarter, but scored just 8 points the rest of the game to fall to the state’s top ranked Class 7A club.
With the loss Newnan fell to 6-15 overall and1-7 in league play.
