Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the person(s) responsible for leaving a deceased newborn on the side of the road.
The infant was reportedly discovered Sunday, Jan. 6 in a portable cooler in the woodline off Boy Scout Road, which is off New Franklin Road, a few miles from the LaGrange city limits.
The cooler is light blue with pictures of watermelon slices and zips at the top, front and sides, TCSO investigators said
Witnesses in the area told investigators the cooler had been on the side of the road for several days, possibly up to a week, according to officials with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said an autopsy on the newborn is scheduled for Tuesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.
