Investigators said an autopsy did not immediately establish the cause of death for an infant found dead on the side of the road.
The infant was reportedly discovered Sunday, Jan. 6 in a portable cooler in the woodline off Boy Scout Road, a few miles from the LaGrange city limits.
The child was a full-term, white female whose body showed no obvious signs of trauma or injury, according to investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
Further blood testing to determine a cause of death will take several weeks to months, investigators said.
The cooler in which the baby was found is light blue with pictures of watermelon slices and zips at the top, front and sides.
Witnesses in the area told investigators the cooler had been on the side of the road for several days, possibly up to a week, according to officials with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
If anyone has any information regarding this case – or knows of an expectant mother who was full-term and is no longer pregnant – should contact the Troup County Sheriff’s Office at 706-883-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
