The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Art & Jake’s, 510 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 1 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Black buildup on drop area of ice machine and on soda gun nozzles in bar area. New violation. Hand towel in flour bin. Removed during inspection. New violation.

Barnes & Noble, 342 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 1 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Burn spray and bandages stored on rack with single-service items. New violation. Trash receptacle needed in back prep/storage/dish washing area. New violation.

Benton House of Newnan Lakes, 25 Newnan Lakes Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 31 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a box of cups in emergency storage room stored on the floor. New violation. Observed bin without a label. Observed another bin with label of February 2017. Person-in-charge stated they did not use that bin. New violation.

Brookdale Newnan, 355 Millard Farmer Industrial Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 30 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bag of flour stored on shelf not properly sealed from contamination. New violation. Observed handle of scoop touching sugar inside of container. Person in charge removed the scoop. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Food for Thought Catering and Kitchen To Go , 51 Market Square Road, Suite E, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 7 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed household-grade pesticides. All pest prevention is to be applied by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Observed open bags sugar and cocoa powder in dry storage not properly sealed after opening. New violation.

Grantville Senior Center, 123 Lagrange St., Grantville – was inspected Nov. 6 and received a score of 100-A.

Krystal, 220 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 6 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one carton of milk with expiration date of Oct. 29. Item discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Open bag of grits on storage rack. Sealed with plastic wrap during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Leaf and Bean Newnan, 22 W. Court Square, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 5 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Ice cream scoops stored in room temperature water. Discussed options with owner how scoops can be stored in between use. New violation.

Taco Bell, 226 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 6 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two open bags of corn chips not properly sealed after opening. New violation. No food service permit posted. New violation.

Waffle House, 229 Temple Avenue, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 7 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine not reaching proper temperature for sanitization. Gauges on dish machine read 140F. Ran cycle with thermometer and it read 120F. New violation. Open bag of sugar behind front food service counter. New violation.

Wendy’s, 381 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Nov. 1 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sliced tomatoes stored in walk-in cooler with no date and time label. New violation. Observed lettuce stored past its disposal date of Oct. 31. New violation.
