The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

American Deli, 1053 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 23 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried tomato particles on slicer. New violation.

Chicken Salad Chick, 214 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Oct 23 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup starting on soda nozzles. New violation. Observed mold starting on wall behind three-compartment sink. New violation.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 527 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 18 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food particles inside slicer. Moved to dish area for proper wash, rinse, and sanitization. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed two scoop handles in content on prep line, scoop handles adjusted during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

McDonald’s, 1721 Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 23 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup of food debris on exterior of ice cream machine and food debris buildup underneath bun warmer. Repeat violation. Walk-in freezer is not closing all the way due to ice buildup by door. Produces snow when entering the walk-in freezer. Repeat violation.

Newnan Fresh Foods Cafe, 33 Dart Road, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 19 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw pork sausage stored above fully cooked chicken. Person in charge corrected by moving items. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed buildup of mold on ice machine nonfood contact parts. New violation.

Nic & Norman’s, 20 Main St., Senoia –  was inspected July 2 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Black buildup on soda nozzle. Nozzles removed, washed, rinsed and sanitized during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed flour and sugar scoops with handles touching the content. New violation.

Panda Express, 1015 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Oct. 23 and received a score of 100-A.

Sky Zone Newnan, 1098 Bullsboro Drive, Senoia –  was inspected Oct. 24 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup on can opener. New violation. Observed broom by handwash sink not in use. Store properly. New violation.

Subway at Pilot, 1645 S. Hwy. 29, Newnan –  was inspected Oct. 24 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Pans wet-stacked. New violation. Scoop handles touching ingredients in shaved beef, rotisserie chicken and chopped chicken. Scoop handles must be above ingredients in between use. New violation.

Convenience Stores Inc., DBA Subway, 1010 E. Hwy. 34, Newnan –  was inspected Oct. 18 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed stack of baskets and stack of bake dishes that were wet-stacked. New violation. Observed top and side areas of dumpster open. Person in charge corrected by closing both. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Summergrove Golf Club, 355 Summergrove Parkway, Newnan –  was inspected Oct. 22 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on knife holder beside prep-top cooler. Observed black mold buildup at drop area of ice machine. Dust on ice machine filter. New violation. Observed peroxide and/first aid kit on top of ice machine. New violation.

Taco Bell, 1101 Lower Fayetteville Road, Newnan –  was inspected Oct. 24 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic pans on air-drying shelf with stickers still present. Removed during inspection for proper cleaning and air drying. New violation. Observed single-service cups overstocked so that lip area is exposed. New violation.
