Piedmont Newnan volunteers enjoy a barbecue dinner during the hospital’s annual fall volunteer appreciation ceremony. From left are Fred Lange, Noreen Johnson, Garry Foster and John Roney.

More than 130 hospital volunteers were treated to a free barbecue dinner at the Historic Train Depot last week in downtown Newnan, according to Nicole Dillon with Piedmont Newnan.

Brad Down, vice president and general manager of the local Cargill Meat Solutions company, was the guest speaker for the event.

After his speech, Down handed out gift certificates for a free turkey to every hospital volunteer in attendance.

Piedmont Newnan also raffled off door prizes that were donated by local businesses.

Hospital volunteers have a variety of jobs from helping nurses answer phones and stock supply closets, to answering questions from visitors as they enter the main lobby and pointing them in the right direction.
