Daviston joins Coweta County Development Authority

John Daviston, owner of McKoon Funeral Home and Crematory, was recently appointed to the board of the Coweta County Development Authority.

Daviston was appointed by Commissioner Bob Blackburn during the October meeting to replace his father and former board member, Terry Daviston. The positions are appointed by each commissioner.

“John is an accomplished business person in our community and the board will be well-served having him on it,” Blackburn said.


Raslan speaks to White Oak Golden Kiwanis club

Shahir Raslan, the owner of Advanced Fab and Machine Inc., in Newnan, was the speaker at the White Oak Golden K meeting last week.

Raslan’s company produces and repairs production equipment for the carpet industry.

Raslan came from Syria with his family at the age of 18 and obtained a degree in mechanical engineering. He married an American and started a family.

Raslan is a Muslim and talked about his experiences as a Muslim in the United States, the cultural differences from his background and what he has seen in America. He also talked about his company and a range of other topics.

Boothby named to second term on chamber association boar

Newnan-Coweta Chamber President and CEO Candace Boothby will serve a second term on the board of directors of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).

ACCE serves more than 7,500 chamber of commerce professionals, 1,300 chambers of commerce, and hundreds of other businesses and organizations in their mission to support and develop chamber professionals to lead businesses and their communities.  

In addition to serving another term on ACCE’s board, Boothby will also chair the organization’s Chamber of the Year Award program for the next two years.

In 2015, the Newnan-Coweta Chamber was named the national Chamber of the Year in its category by ACCE, the first to be recognized by this honor in the state of Georgia.
