Chelita Freeman is originally from Birmingham, Ala., but now calls Franklin home. She began painting in the early 1970s and has been painting and teaching ever since. Ms. Freeman said, “I paint because I love to teach people how to paint.” Ms. Freeman has been a member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association for three years. Besides teaching classes at Hobby Lobby, she now donates her time to teach free painting classes at the Tommy Thompson Senior Center in Newnan every Wednesday at 11 a.m. No previous painting experience is necessary. Ms. Freeman said, “Everyone can paint, you just need to learn a technique and have a good teacher.” Works of art by Ms. Freeman and other artists from the Newnan Coweta Art Association can also be seen on exhibit at the Tommy Thompson Senior Center at 29 Hospital Road in Newnan. The Newnan Senior Center is grateful to all our volunteers like Chelita Freeman who to take time to lead classes and activities for our seniors.
