The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Eat Thai, 33 East Broad St., Newnan – was inspected Sept. 25 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed spoons and scoops being stored in room-temperature water. New violation.

Jimmy John’s, 51 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 18 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic food bins wet-stacked. New violation. Observed some flies in the dining and prep area. Discussed methods of controlling flies with owner. New violation.

Moe’s Southwest Grill, 1111 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 19 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed mold inside of ice machine near ice drop area and in tea nozzles on tea dispensers. These items should be cleaned frequently to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed open bags of salt, sugar and seasoning stored in main kitchen area not properly sealed after opening. New violation.

NCG Cinema, 55 Fischer Crossing Blvd., Sharpsburg – was inspected Sept. 20 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: No hair restraints on food service employees. New violation. Observed two bags of popcorn on the floor in back storage and spillage of popcorn under pallet where popcorn is stored. New violation.

Olive Garden, 212 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 18 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Food particles on pans stored inside warmer. Moved to dish area for cleaning. Corrected on-site. New violation. Employee purse stored on packages of biscotti. New violation.

Red Lobster, 990 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 25 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Heavy lime buildup on inside of dishwashing machine. New violation. Observed condensation dripping from fan unit in walk-in cooler onto asparagus. Asparagus discarded during inspection and empty tray placed underneath fan. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Senkaku Hibachi and Sushi, 3149 Hwy. 34 E., Suite 200, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 19 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Raw chicken stored above sauce cups in walk-in cooler. Fried rice stored underneath seafood in walk-in cooler. Rice and chicken both moved to correct shelves during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Rice scoops stored in water at 107F. Water must maintain a temperature of 135F in order for a scoop to be stored safely in between use. New violation.

Star Deli, 165 Temple Ave., Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 13 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Shelves near fries lined with cardboard. Cardboard is not considered a washable surface and should not be used in the kitchen area. New violation. Observed three containers of raw fish fillets stored uncovered in reach-in cooler. Food is to be stored covered to prevent contamination. New violation.

Taco Mac, 301 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 25 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Heavy lime buildup in inside dish machine. Cleaning should be done frequently to prevent accumulation. New violation. Food pans wet-stacked on dish drying rack. Pans should be allowed to air dry before stacking. New violation.

The Frigid Frog of West Georgia, 207 Rustica Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 20 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed several syrup containers stored on the floor. Moved to storage in cabinet during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed fan over three-compartment sink with dust present. New violation.

Wishbone Fried Chicken, 32 Jefferson St., Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 24 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one split gasket on reach-in cooler. Cracked floor tiles in walk-in cooler. New violation.

Pita Mediterranean Street Food, 3150 Hwy. 34 E., Suite 204, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 27 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on drink nozzles and nozzles on tea urn. New violation. Date mark sticker residue on outside of clean food containers on dish drying rack.  New violation.

Steak ‘N Shake, 1249 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 27 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on drink nozzles. Dried tomato seeds on dicer. Observed food particles in microwave. New violation.

Frank’s Family Restaurant, 1188 Collinsworth Road, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 27 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed half gallons of buttermilk dated September 18, 2018. Removed from service during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed split gasket on the bottom of prep-top cooler containing seafood. New violation.

McDonald’s, 58 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected Sept. 26 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Ice on walk-in freezer door. Buildup on walk-in freezer wall. New violation.

RPM Full Service, 15 Jackson St.,  Newnan – was inspected Sept. 27 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Unpackaged meat stored in freezer. New violation. Dish machine not sanitizing. New violation.
