The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Captain D’s, 1369 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 4 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed mold and buildup on drink dispenser. New violation. Observed handwash sink with heavy buildup in basin and on handles. New violation.

China One, 487 Jackson St., Suite 109, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 5 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Wrong inspection report posted. New violation. Foods in reach-in cooler such as egg rolls, pork and wontons stored uncovered. New violation.

Corner Cafe, 1485 Hwy. 34, Suite 7A, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 30 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed reuse of single-use items to store food. New violation. Observed duct tape on the handle of pan. Duct tape is not considered a washable surface and should not be used on cookware. New violation.

Elegant Expressions Catering LLC, 253 Hendrix Road, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 6 and received a score of 100-A.

Garlic Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar, 16 N. Court Square, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 5 and received a score of 76-C. Inspector’s comments: Single-service containers stored on the floor. New violation. Dishwasher not sanitizing. Repaired during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Lepoma’s Pizzeria, 3500 Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg – was inspected Aug. 29 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Dried food particles on slicer. New violation. Sanitizer not at dishwasher. Two buckets of rinse aid hooked to lines instead. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Meat ‘N Greet, 11 Jefferson, St., Newnan – was inspected Sept. 4 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Buildup on hood filters. New violation. Exposed light bulbs. New violation.

Shirley’s Country Kitchen Too, 1485 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Sept. 4 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Dust on table fan cover in kitchen area. New violation. Observed bulk food bins storing flour and sugar in need of labeling. New violation.

Sprayberry’s Barbecue No. 2, 1060 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Aug. 30 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Dust on vent grates. Buildup on fan. New violation. Roach present. Consult exterminator. New violation.

Wendy’s, 1210 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Aug. 30 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Low grout in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed condensation in reach-in freezer. Food items still felt frozen to touch. Discussed with person in charge. New violation.

Wendy’s, 1645 Hwy. 29 S., Newnan – was inspected Sept. 4 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Mold on back interior wall of ice machine. Dried food particles on slicer. New violation. Brooms not stored properly. New violation.
